Indie Film Fridays Sundays: The Hunt for Gollum

The Hunt for Gollum, a 40-minute high-definition film created "by fans for fans" of The Lord of the Rings, debuts today on the Internet. NPR's All Things Considered has a brief article on the making of the film and the copyright issues involved in fanfic and fan films.

The Hunt for Gollum has clearly been a labor of love for its 150 all-volunteer creators, and the trailers look fantastic, as you can see from the one above. Enjoy.

The Gollum fan film is getting a ton of coverage all over the net, and I'm not surprised as I've been writing about them on my daily fan film blog, fancinematoday.com for months. For what it's worth, if you want to find out more about fan films in general, I wrote the first book about the history and future of 'em, Homemade Hollywood, which just came out.
